Re: Startup mental health. We've been framing the startup life as training to be an athlete - you can train hard and push, but rest and recovery are a natural part of the cycle and you can't get the results you want without making the time to rest.

I like the athlete analogy! Rest is a huge part of mental well-being.

In addition to rest, it's important to avoid various toxic culture pitfalls that quickly drain mental energy. Micromanagement is a good example of something that can be very draining to a team.

1000% "Burnout" by Emily Nagoski covers this in great detail. You can't self-care your way out of stress if the stressors are still present. It's my job as a leader to remove as many unnecessary stressors as possible for my team so that they can focus on doing what they need to do. This includes anything I might be doing that could be contributing to confusion or stress! ("Leading with Heart" by Ed Sullivan is an excellent read on this as well)
